Describe the exposure
Provide the distance from the coast, direct spray exposure, prevailing wind and sheltered areas. Distance alone is not a complete corrosivity assessment. Include nearby industrial exposure where relevant.
Coordinate the materials
Discuss the proposed aluminum grade, coating and compatible fasteners together. PVDF is available as a custom option. Confirm the complete fixing system and compatibility rather than assuming any stainless screw or thicker sheet suits every coastal project.
Plan maintenance
Ask for inspection and cleaning instructions for the supplied coating and fittings. Sheltered salt deposits may need attention. Obtain applicable warranty exclusions and maintenance requirements before approving the specification.
Coastal specification enquiry
| Component | Information to request |
|---|---|
| Aluminum | Proposed 3003-H14 or 3004 grade and material documentation |
| Coating | PVDF option, coating specification and applicable test evidence |
| Fasteners | Compatible bi-metal or protective-coated fixing specification |
| Seals | EPDM washer arrangement and compatibility with the fitting |
| Exposure | Sea spray, shelter, wind exposure and maintenance access |
Evaluate evidence at component level
Ask for the documents applicable to the actual coating and fasteners ordered. A salt-spray test duration for one component is not a service-life guarantee for an installed roof. The fixing arrangement must address the substrate, material compatibility and project wind design together.
Corrosion warranties and marine-environment maintenance
For coastal hotels, homes or industrial buildings, describe exposure on both roof faces. Sheltered salt deposits, indoor humidity and process contaminants can matter alongside sea spray. The aluminum roof panel corrosion warranty should identify the supplied finish, permitted environment, cleaning obligations and covered remedy.
Laboratory exposure hours are not a direct conversion into service years. Keep coating records and inspect compatible fixings, flashings and drainage as part of the same roof. Agree safe inspection access and the cleaning instructions for the actual finish; do not substitute locally available fasteners without review.
